Life as a smoker.

So many things stand against those who choose to smoke, and the biggest obstacles start with the media. Certain commercials such as TRUTH are alright. tobacco has serious risks and everyone has a right to know these risks. it's organizations like NO STANK YOU that cause the real problems. as i see it, announcements like NO STANK YOU are a counter to old campaigns that tried to hook people, especially the youth, into smoking with the idea that it was the cool thing to do (ie, the marlboro cowboy, the leather jacket and shades camel, etc). the problem is that NO STANK YOU counters these messages by demonizing the smoker, saying that smokers are basically losers that won't amount to anything.

This message gets absorbed by todays youth and causes them to cast out those who do smoke as if they were lepers. others harrass smokers about how bad smoking is and how we shouldn't do it. what everyone seems to forget is that smoking is a personal choice. these days every child ... Funny story back in junior year of high school. alow me to describe the setting.

in chemistry class i always sat in the back with three dudes, sam, terry, and hee yule (aka john). me and john were good friends, as were me and terry. sam on the other hand was a little prick so me and john stayed away from him, but terry was friends with him. i was the stoner/slacker who actually got good grades, sam was the kid who talked about how well he was doing when he was failing the class, and john was a rare asian jock, therefore a rare academically challenged asian.

the tests in the class were team tests, harder than other classes but you were allowed to work with a partner. me and john always teamed up, while sam and terry always teamed up. i dragged john through with B's and low A's, while sam and terry fell behind with D's and low C's. now, sam is an incredibly stupid little shit, and he seriously believed that because john was asian, he was the one getting good grades for the team. so he ... A little while ago when we had the "rant" feature I tore these fuckers a new one, but that didn't get alot of publicity, and rants were quickly replaced by blogs. aside from listening to me bitch about it, I can only hope everyone else bitches to their hearts content in the coments section.

I've spent alot of time thinking about religion and debating theology. Why would the masses but blind faith into archaic ideals? Why would people bother living for some deity whose existence lacks any factual evidence? Jesus might have been a real man, but how do we know that his deeds were any more than fable?

The answer is simple. People (in general) are ignorant and insecure. They need to feel purpose and understanding, and often reach out to simple answers like creationism to acheive understanding, and put blind faith in god to feel purpose. They needn't question, only believe, and for the simple-minded this is the ideal solution. Take the most common analogy for christians, used by christians, as being a flock, and god the shepherd. They admit to being simple sheep, obeying their higher power without qualm or question and so surrender their lives to him. But still, their are some Christians (and members of other religions) who have thought deeply about their gods and feel that they ha ...
